Kenya is my home ...

Kenya has been my home already for the last three months. I'm halfway done with my voluntary work in Kenya.

We celebrated it with my colleagues and local friends with a small party at my house. I cooked them Estonian food (or tried to make something similar with the ingredients I had) and carried out a game for them. The game rules were simple - everyone had to take a piece of yarn and measure 1m by hand. Results were great and we all got a good laugh, the locals loved it. The winner received my handmade hat.

All the activities in Tailor Shop have gone well ahead and we have now new products in the Tailor Shop. Tailor Shop's members have the ability to develop new products together and manufacture and market these products in Tailor Shop as well. It makes me very proud of them.

Village workshops I also have done the first hand made piece with the village people. Interest in handicrafts is big over there.

For me it has been important to be able to hold the workshops in remote villages, as members of women's groups have very serious financial problems and it has not been possible to come together for a whole day in a larger center (Tailor Shop premises), as many young women have babies or older women are not willing to make such a long journey for health reasons. It is very good to see that young women in particular are very interested in making crafts. They learn quickly and their manual skills are also good. Whereas until now, the members of the village women's groups were mostly involved in growing and selling agricultural products, they have now also come to realize that it is possible to produce and market quality handicrafts and earn an income from them.

I had a very interesting trip to Mombasa city and Diani beach. I recommend visiting these wonderful places.
